how to unfreeze an ipod touch stuck on the apple boot logo?

ok I jailbroke my friends ipod touch 2nd generation 8gb during summer or rather he jailbroke it but I guided him threw it so I feel partly responsible for it getting stuck on the apple boot logo. So i already told him to try putting it in DFU mode (hold power and home button for 10 seconds then home for 10 seconds) and it didnt work. I also told him to leave it on all night and plug it in to charge and try to turn it on and that did not work. So he can turn it on and off but when he turns it on it gets stuck on the boot logo so the only other thing I can think of is restoring it but his PC is broken. I mentioned that its jailbroken because he was trying to completely customize it so he had a ton of addons and other stuff. Its probably that but I had the same problem on mine before I jailbroke but DFU mode then turning on worked for me so idk what could possibly be next to do
