How to treat a minor head wound.?

Sarski

Soooo what's to do about a gash on someone's forehead which probably needs stitches? The person doesn't have insurance and doesn't want to go to the hospital because of it. They've been using those butterfly closure bandages to keep the wound closed and cleaning wit hydrogen peroxide. Anything else that should be done? Anything that definitely SHOULDN'T be used on the wound? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Oh and, don't be alarmed. It's stopped bleeding and the person is fully functional. It's not like, 24 hours later, there's still blood pouring out and they still refuse to go to the hospital. Just trying to avoid infection, major scarring, etc.

Don't use peroxide; it will eat away at the healing tissue, causing the wound to heal more slowly and possibly create a more obvious scar. Cleanse it gently with saline (not contact saline, 0.9% normal saline -- get it at the drug store), and don't remove the butterfly closures. Leave them on until they fall off. If one falls off and the wound edges are still separated, then gently apply another.
