How To Transfer Files,Pictures,Etc. from old computer to new one?

I recently got a Laptop and I was wondering how I could transfer my pictures, files, etc. from my old desk top to my new laptop because I really don't wanna have to erase it all. Btw I know you can get a USB Drive and do it but I was wondering if there were any other ways...also to transfer photos couldn't I burn them on a disc and Transfer them to the new computer that way. IF ANYONE COULD HELP THANKS P.S sorry for SO many Q's I suck at computer knowledge lol
