How to train for a 52 mile bike ride, as a beginner?

I just bought a used road bike and signed up for the medio course (52 mile) ride of the Gran Fondo in San Diego. I live in the suburbs with lots of roads and a few hills to ride around. The race is on April 10th. I'm not in shape, but figured that this would be a great way to get myself in shape. I'm a female, mid-30s and in the right weight range for my height, if that will help any.

Any suggestions on how I can build myself up to accomplish a 52 mile bike ride? Post training recovery suggestions? I'm hoping that succeeding in finishing a 52 mile ride will make me feel good about myself to attempt a century ride.
