How to Train for a 50 mile bike ride?

A friend of mine just emailed me about a July 4th bike ride. They offer 28 and 50 mile rides. Right now I ride to and from work anywhere from two to three times a week total trip being 27 - 30 miles depending on which way I go. I try to average a speed of around 16 mph. On the weekend I will go on Saturday or Sunday with some friends for a 30 mile....Which is not a problem at all….There are hills some worse than others but nothing more than a mile long…..
I have never done any kind of race or tour or anything and I wanted to know with this ride only being 18 days away do I have enough time to be ready to ride the 50 miles or should I just stick to the 28 miles?

You should be safe and do the 28. Next year do the 50. if you can do 50 then you can do the 28 and do better then you would in the 50. If you want to do a 50 you should be able to ride 60 and it not feel like the hardest workout you ever done. Train to do more then the distance of the race. When i run I do 2 miles cc races but I run 8 miles as my hard workout, 4 miles as my regular
