Hi, I have a 7 month old beagle that is showing all the classic signs of defensive aggressive puppy. I did used to reprimand the puppy for things like urinating and also snapping at me. I have stopped all that now for a couple of weeks, after learning online that I was in-fact reprimanding too much. Here are some of the problems he has:
He never ever lets me groom him, I took him to a vet to get his nails done. They put a muzzle on him to prevent him from biting. I put in a sleep position, but he will not stay still. I think this may have something to do with vet's assistant cutting in too deep when he was shaking.
He often starts biting very aggressively, if I say push him off the sofa when he tries to climb it, he will start snapping and sometimes bite really hard. I just say NO loudly and firmly. But it doesn't seem to work.
He doesn't like being picked up, I've tried sneaking in and picking him up. Approaching from the front. Even slowly pet him and picking him up, he never lets me. In some cases when he is too tired he doesn't snap back. And whenever I manage to pick him up, he tries to escape for 2 mins and then quits. Then he is fine.
My dog has been socialised with a lot of people and also a lot of other dogs in the neighbourhood like atleast 6. He is not scared of them, but he is very scared of dogs he doesn't know. When a tiny female pug barked at him (I think in a playful way), this dog just tried so hard to run. He doesn't even go close to other dogs he doesn't know.
I play tug with him, because its really the only game he will play. After the tug i make sure he doesn't the rope that i play tug with. he does play fetch, but he only gets the ball and settles wherever the ball is.
There are 5 other people in my household, who all are training him, is this a bad thing? Should I alone take charge?
Thanks for any suggestions.
