How to tell which part of the shoe is leather?

Hi there,

I've just started working at a shoe store and customers often ask me if a shoe is made of leather or not. I always have to check the writing on the inside of the shoe before I can answer them though. Is there a way to tell without reading the little tag inside?

well, normally real leather is softer and the shoe will probably be more expensive.
