How to tell a author's sex?

How do you tell if the author of a written work is male or female by the content of his or her written work without looking it up?

It there a style specific to a sex?

Anything would be greatly appreciated!!

Phillip2,usually in a book they have a page that tells about the author in it,have you tried to look for this page? I don't think that there is any specific style, another thing you could do would be to look up the authors name on line or even go to a book store and ask there, hope this is of some help to you,Tomb Raider.

Ha! There is no way to tell a good writer's sex by their writing style. The Bronte sisters published under pen names in the attempt to fool people into thinking their books were written by men. (brothers) Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein and people thought a man wrote the book. S.E. Hinton wrote That Was Then, This is Now (a sequel to the book The Outsiders, written when she was in high school) It is impossible to tell her gender by her writing style in her second book. J.K. Rowling wrote the Harry Potter books and there is not a hint of her gender showing in her writing.
Funny, not many men write books from the woman's point of view.

Hope this helpld a little bit.
