How to take my two guitars, amp head, and speaker to college?

So I am going to college in august in upstate new york. Driving up there is completely out of the question since I live in Florida, so we are flying up there. I will not check these in as bags since I have heard that is a bad idea. Shipping I've heard is also a bad idea. Now my question is how I could take my electric guitar, acoustic guitar, amp head, and speaker up to college with me. So far as the electric guitar goes I have a hardshell rectangular fender case (the ones that come with the newer model stratocasters [purchased in 2009]) that I was thinking about taking on the flight with me. Is this allowed/is it a good idea. I talked to a lady representing US airways and she said that as long as the dimensions of the object is at most 10X16X49, you can take it as a carry on. The dimensions of the case are: 5 (width) 16(length) and 41 (height). She said nothing about weight

My acoustic guitar I was thinking about putting in a gig-bag (no shell) and giving it to my dad as a carry-on. Maybe I could ship my amp head (an orange "tiny terror" with has tubes) and my speaker up there? I have no idea what to do.... or maybe i should just take my solid-state (with the amp and speakers built into one) fender g-dec which sounds like complete and utter shit

quite the debacle
