how to style/ what to do with short "bob" hair, but the ends are all poofy and

sticking out? i got this hideous haircut, it is just around shorter than where my chin is.
its like the hairdresser used a scissors and cut it straight across, and now the ends of my hair stick out, she said something about me having thick hair, and my hair can't 'curl in' like most bobs,
so my hair looks like abit like jane's hair from daria.
and it looks horrible because my face is oval ish
how can i get it to look more like a normal bob
how can i style it?
