How to set up my Linksys Wireless-B USB Network Adapter?

I have Comcast as my ISP, and I have a modem and a wireless router through them. I just bought a laptop and it came with a Linksys Wireless-B USB Network Adapter, but I can't figure how to make it work. Our roommate connects "his" laptop automatically through my router, and this laptop I just bought supposedly is "Internet ready"...
What are the steps to making it work? Do I install a driver first?
I tried downloading it via cnet but it took me to Cisco and I did a search for the adapter which gave me pages and pages of a super long list that ultimately never gave me "any" info on this particular adapter!
Assuming I succeed in finding and installing the driver, tho, will that be all I need to make it work? I will be taking this laptop to Mexico, therefore I will be needing web access there, too... whether it be via a hotspot or if I have to subscribe to an ISP there. This adapter should help me, right???
Thx so much for your help!!!
**10 POINTS**
My laptop is not a newer model, I bought it used... this is what the ad said...
Dell Inspiron 1000 series:
* VERY clean (inside & out)
* Fresh install of XP Pro sp3
* Norton Security Suite
* All updates are current
* Celeron CPU 2.2Ghz
* 512 RAM
* 30 GB HDD
* DVD/CD-RW
* Internet ready!
* Original users manuals
* Comes with charger & nice case

PS: I checked the Device Manager, and what it has is SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. But he gave me a Linksys Wireless-B USB Network Adapter with a male-to-male USB cable.
