how to save subtitles in vlc media player?

i downloaded a movie and it came with out subtitles.i downloaded them and i can see the movie with them, but when i close it and the i want to see it again it comes without subtitles. how can i do it so the sub. are always on?
 
Universal and easy method to use subtitles(srt file) on any player :

Just put video and it's subtitles in same folder. The name of video file and srt file should be same(any but same). So rename them accordingly.
However, extensions like .avi and .srt will be different.
