How to ride a dirt bike?

ok well i might get a dirt bike soon and i have never ridden one before,,, i know that u shift it with your foot on the left side but how do u know what gear u are in and what if u are in neutral and u press the gas? do u have to slowly release the clutch like u do in 1st gear for every gear? WHen u want to stop the bike do u put it back in neutral before u stop and it does it just shut off when u dont turn the gas? and how do u keep it on when u dont turn the gas, do u just pull the clutch to keep it on or what??? please help me with my questions i basically know how to shift but i dont realy know the "rules" of the DIrt bike
