how to request professor use different textbooks?

At my university the math department uses James Stewart's textbooks for pretty much every math class from calc 1 on up. The problem with this is the textbook is worthless. It doesn't help it all. It gives a few problems in each section. In those problems they jump from step to step, assuming the students understands what happened in between (but we don't). Then, the "examples" they give don't help one tiny bit when it comes to the homework problems accompanying each section. (I had to use Cramster just to learn anything!!!!) I can't stand this book anymore. Worse, I plan on majoring in math and I don't think I can't stand Stewart and his books any longer. So, how do I politely tell the math professors here to use a different, better math textbooks, such as Larson? (Oh, and according reviews on Amazon, 99% of the students who had to use Stewart's textbooks agree with me.)
