What some vehicles have is a access panel that is under the carpet and to picture where it might be located just glance at the gas tank from under the vehicle and where you see the lines etc going into the centre area of the tank thats where in the vehicle you'll find such access panels.
Sometimes what is done is I cut out a spot to gain access to the fuel pump assembly etc but I don't really recommend trying that method if you've never done it before etc.
Most of the time the tank is dropped by removing the gas tank straps and then the lines, hoses and wiring going to the tank are removed and then you can gain access directly to the pump assembly.
What I like to do bec most of these mounting bolts for the gas tanks are so rusted and especially their bolts is to cut the old tank's mounting straps and then it's a lot easier to gain access to the bolts and then I use a set of universal gas tank straps and use them to install the tank with new bolts etc.
Believe me when I say that the extra expense is well worth the headaches of trying to get any old tank out to replace it's pump , just keep in mind that if you drop the fuel tank be sure you clean the old tank bec moister or dirt etc builds up in the bottom's of the gas tanks and since you've the tank out it's best to clean it at the same time. Some gas tank shops will do this for you quite cheap too.
Once you've the new pump in be sure you clean the connections on the the gas tank especially the ground and be sure that you change the fuel filter on it and I'd not just clean the tank I'd change the fuel filter in the fuel line and then treat the fuel system and once I've used up a few tanks of fuel I'd change the fuel filter again.
If you're handy with electrical work then I'd change the whole harness that runs to the fuel tank this way if you've solid grounds and solid wiring and especially bec you've a new float in the tank the fuel gauge should be much more accurate and also the whole fuel system should work better over all.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I'd check all the gas lines and brake lines just in case any need replacing especially if you plan on keeping that vehicle awhile.
Merry Xmas to you and all your family and friends and to all that read this.
