how to remove jeep wrangler fender flares?

I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler and I want to take the fender flares off to paint them. I tried to take my GF's fender flares off of her jeep, before we sold it, but it was so hard to find the bolts and what not. Where are all the bolts located, some are outside, but when I get closer to the rear of the vehicle the bolts dissappear. Anyone done this? How long did it take you? Could I take really well and paint without removal?

You remove the fender, then you take a pair of pliers and twist the flares off, then put the flares in a bucket of soap and water so you can wash it!
