I can't believe I couldn't find this on the internet! I want to remove the serpentine (drive belt) from a 2002 Jeep Liberty the correct way. The real question is how to pry the belt tensioner the correct way w/o damaging the pulley. This vehicle has an automatic, spring loaded belt tensioner. I've actually done the belt on this car in the past, but want to make sure it's the right way. Please Note: this belt is NOT removed by loosening up a swing bracket (commonly on the alternator or power steering pump bracket).
There doesn't seem to be anywhere to put a pry wrench, only directly on the pulley which can damage it I would think. (the tensioner has VERY strong spring resistance - can you loosen that via the bolt that holds the tensioner bracket?? Or, don't touch that??
