how to put an image in an html table. full background =]?

I'm doing an html table calendar for my Web Authoring class. soooo. I need to put my image on it.

Whenever i try to put one on mine, it repeats my images. but whenever i put no repeat. my pic becomes small.
i wanna stretch my pic so it would fit the whole table :)
how do i do that :/
