how to pull out speedometer cable on my toyota crown 1982 model uk?

im trying to put back my meter Gage. The problem is once i have connected the 2 electric cables i find it hard to connect it to he speedometer cable. What i want is to pull the cable forward but it seems to be set and non move able. Is there a way to pull it forward a little
