Please can someone help me out? Is this true:

In order to record a tv show w/ an analog vcr, converter box & analog TV, do I need to wait until the tv show starts & just hit record? So I can no longer program my vcr in advance?

We had bought 2 converter boxes for our 2 analog TVs (which the boxes no longer returnable from Best Buy). They work great but we are finding out the hard way that we can't get our vcr to record the new digital stations.

Anyway, if this is the reality, does anyone know what other alternatives there are besides buying a new dvr recorder for a bundle of $ and adding our perfectly good analog VCRs to the landfill? TIA!

If you can record the signal by pressing the record button manually you can record it by using the timer. You just need to remember to leave the VCR channel selector set to the output of the digital converter box. I suspect you're programming the VCR to switch to the channel as you used to. You can't do that with the converter box as all the channels come out of it on channel 3 or 4. Program the VCR to be on the converter box channel. You just need to have the converter box on and have it set to the right channel. You can't program your VCR to record 2 shows on different channels as it can't change the digital channels. You need to select that manually on the converter box.
