How to prepare for a tough hiking trip?

Mmmmm

I am going to a one day hiking trip soon. It is going to be 8-10hrs long. The trail is 4500 elevation gain with uphills and downhills. I have heard that the uphills are a series of switchbacks. I am a skinny, healthy woman who is not physically active.

I have two weeks to prepare myself physically. I know I am not adequate for the trip, but I am going anyway and I hope nothing serious happen to me!! So my question is, in this two weeks what I can do to train myself? I need to figure a way to minimize the enormous relentless muscle sore after hiking.

P.S. I plan to jog everyday for 1 hr. On top of that should I add bicycling?

It wouldnt hurt to bike and jog. Its only a day hike, switch backs make the trail a little easier since the trail winds up the mountain instead of going straight up. I wouldnt sweat it too much keep doing your routine and have a pasta dinner the night before you go out on the hike this way you have the extra carbs in you. Also bring some trail mix to munch on during your hike

To relieve muscle soreness drink plenty of water, stretch before and after the hike- your muscles will be tight after the hike so definitely stretch, and eat bananas- they contain a ton of potassium which helps tremendously in muscle recovery and the absorption of lactic acid.
