How to pair an official Sony PS3 Headset to PS3?

I've tried many variations. I lost the instructions so I've been going by what I've seen online...

- First I plugged it into the PS3 via usb cord that comes with it and went to Accessory Settings > Manage Bluetooth > Register> Then it goes into scan mode and never comes out

- Then I learned that you can only have 1 device registered so I deleted the other one and tried again to no avail.

- Now I think its because it isn't in "pairing" mode and people say you just hold down a button till the red/green lights flash but only the red one is on and it stays solid. Is it the mute or the power button I'm suppose to hold to get it into pairing mode? That's all the questions I can think of at the moment. Help would be very much appreciated.
 
when the red light comes on keep holding down the button until starts flashing red and green. this means its in discoverable mode. after that just do what you did and it should find it when it says scanning. it will scan for maybe a minute, dont abort the opperation, wait for it to stop. if it doesnt work it will say no devices found.
