I have been working on my motorcycle for awhile its a 1998 Yzf 600, and now i want to try painting it. I would like to know a step by step process for a beginner to paint a motorcycle. Also if there is a difference in painting the tank than the plastics. any good books, dvd's, or articles would be helpful.... Thank You.

Trust me It is very hard to get a good paint job in the backyard. My friends have dubbed me spray-can-dan. A motorcycle doesn't have much skin, so for a little money it would be worth letting a shop do it, and have a perfect finish. You can save money by removing all parts to be painted, scuffing them with lite sandpaper and bringing them to a shop. See if you can put your parts in with another job such as a car. Most shops will work with you. This will cut down on prep time, and time is money.

It is the same as painting a car but easier because it is smaller. You will use the same techniques for the metal parts and the plastic parts, if they have already been painted.

I got this link from a search "how to paint a car". It turned up a bunch of sites with step by step instructions as well as books and tips.
