I feel super super guilty because it probably was my fault that it got stolen. I have one of those locks, where it has 2 wire things with loops at the end of them, and you use a combination lock to lock the hoops together. When I pushed down [to lock] my lock, I didn't spin the combination numbers to land on a random number. I pretty much left it on the last number, so it's easy for someone to pull it back off. Also, my lock probably wasn't one of the locks where, whenever you lock it, it moves a bit to a random number. My lock is the kind that doesn't have a turning needle, it's whole number wheel turns.
So now I just feel super guilty because I feel as if it's all MY fault that my bike got stolen. I know that sketchy people hang around the area, but I never expected my bike to get stolen, and I feel as if I contributed to the stealing of my bike because of my careless mistake. The worst thing is, I actually thought to myself before I left my bike, "I should spin the dial to a random number in case someone tries to steal it - NAH, nobody would steal my bike." So basically, I feel as if the situation could have gone two ways.
1: " Oh look, a bike. Oh cool man, the lock is open! Let's take it! "
2. " Oh look, a bike. Awe shit, the lock is locked, K nevermind. "
And I don';t think people intentionally go on bike raids when they know there's a security camera and people around. They don't bring specific lock cutters etc. I guess it was just my luck that I didn't lock my lock properly and they got to it. But then again, I'm not even sure if you are able to unlock my lock after it is locked, even if it is still landed on the last number of the combo.
Wow, I rambled on a lot. So basically, I just wanted to ask everyone how to overcome the guilt of this. Please try to avoid saying 'learn from this mistake,' because I've heard that and I can't get over it. It was a nice bike too. Sigh.
Blehk. Now I have to walk back and forth to the local community centre, with a guilty conscious
So, how to overcome the guilt of myself thinking that it's ALL MY FAULT.
Thank you so much for everything.
