I asked this question of a Buddhist monk in Thailand, on Koh Pangan as a matter of fact and his answer was " Do not fight the distractions but seek to quietly return to your breathing, six seconds intake six seconds out". Doesnt matter how many times you are disturbed by worldly concerns, seek to breath exactly as I have said and look at a calming scene until the meditation masters you, and it will if you do this".

It doesnt matter whether you walk, run or sit, use this technique and the meditation will come to you

If you are depressed and anxious, you actually shouldn't be meditating until you get a handle on the depression and anxiety. Meditation practice can sometimes make emotional problems worse. You need a counselor and a meditation instructor and you need to actively fix your emotional life to some degree before can become a whiz a meditation practice.
