how to move files from desktop to flash drive?

I just downloaded sony vegas pro 8 to my desktop / c drive thingy and i have a flash/thumb drive i would like to put it on without deleting it from the computer and re-installing it. when i just click and drag it it just makes another shortcut, and it also does it when i copy the file. thank you guys for all your help.
 
Here's a blast from the past! Go to almost any freeware/shareware site and look for "power toys" or even the small program called "Send To". Install the program by right clicking the .inf file and use it. It adds a shortcut in the right click menu and lets you copy or move any file in its entirety from anywhere to anywhere. I use it all the time and have it on a CD and a floppy for installation on any machine I am working on. You will find it easier than drag and drop, and a more complete solution for your problem.
 
don't copy the program copy the setup installer. That way when you move it to a new computer you will just have to set up the program again.

drag and drop the folder or whatever it's in onto the drive

you have to put the entire folder from program files onto the drive

the one on the desktop is a shortcut so you're just coping a shortcut
