How to Make palm pixi battery life last for at least 9 hours?

I text during school ( don't tell me not to, im still gonna do it) and my palm pixi is HORRIBLE at battery life. like within 2 hours it was at 50% i have screen brightness down all the way. Ringers off, apps off, bluetooth off, gps off, and the only thing i do is send texts. Palm pixi does not have the option to turn the backlight timer to anything less than 30 seconds. its just annoying and i need tips? i always take my phone off the charger when its fully charged and i never let it die. hellp :/
