how to make one object color and the rest black and white WITHOUT PHOTOSHOP?

i have a colour photo that i would like to make black and white with one object that is left in colour. i do not have photoshop and am looking for a way to do this without it. PLEASE HELP
 
copy and paste the object into a second ms paint windows save the 1st as a black and white picture then save its as color again then erase all the other stuff around the color object paste it back with white as transparent and put it over where it should be
