How to make civilization 4 work on vista?

I have all the lasted updates on my vista laptop, I went to the website "can you run it?" to check this information, it said that I passed to the test to running this game!

I don't understand what is wrong, basically I installed civilization 4 and the warlords and beyond the sword expansion pack, so I have all the latest updates for the game, including patches and direct x.

I even installed a new sis graphics card of the new website!!! Whenever i try the run the game or the expansion packs it works but, it keeps kinda like blinking, (don't know any other word to explain it, basically when I run it the game is working but, it keeps going off and appearing again making it very hard to play!)

I don't think its my graphics card, or is it vistA WHAT THE HECK DO I DO, I WANNA PLAY THIS GAME!!!
what exactly do i have to tweak in task manager? My pc knows I have a new graphics card btw!
 
Yeah, have you tried reducing your screen resolution and get rid of all the icons on you desk top. you can also tweak it in task manager,(ctrl,alt,delete) You may have to many things running in the background that's hogging you RAm and processor. This is only a quick solution and not a long term solution. Also have you updated the driver for your news graphics card in device manager, or better still, does BIOS recognise the graphics you are using and have you installed the driver at all for you new graphics card. if you haven't' the computer will not even be using the card.
