I am about to buy a car. There are three models considering.

One is VW Rabbit 4D, one is Mazda 3 5D and the other one is VW Jetta sedan.

Does anyone know which one should be the best buy.

Please consider the depreciation, durability and stability for me.

Thank you very much

Comparing the three, the Mazda loses on depreciation compared to the VW's- compare a 2004 Jetta to a 2004 Mazda 3- its about a 3-4k price difference.

the Jetta and the Rabbit are sister cars- they run on the same engine. The rabbit is a bit lighter, so it goes a bit faster than the Jetta.

Both are great cars, but the Rabbit fails to offer an option for leather seating. It really comes down to what you want. Personally, i chose a Jetta because i previously owned a GTi and wanted a body style change.

VW's are quite reliable cars actually. I have never had a problem with mine, but remember to keep up with maintenance! thats where people get the problems!

ESP Stability control is not standard on the lower trim vehicles, but its definately a great add on. If your going for a Jetta, check out your local dealer and ask them if they still have a Wolfsburg Edition in- it comes with a lot of goodies at a lower price.

I have a 2008 Rabbit (2 doors, though), I've put almost 11K miles on it now, and it's been a fantastic car. I don't have any problems or complaints with it. It's comfortable, handles very well, and is slightly quicker and lot more uncommon than the Jetta. The resale for all of these cars should be pretty good, considering Volkswagen just won a bunch of awards for having high resale value and Mazdas are traditionally reliable, solid cars.
I considered all of these choices, along with a few other models, while shopping for a new car last year and I'm still glad I chose the Rabbit. I really like the high-quality interior feel (better than the Mazda's, in my opinion) and the functional hatchback. It has plenty of power and it's a blast to drive for being an entry-level car. Mine has a manual gearbox, which is great. Very easy to drive and it shifts smoothly so I'd highly recommend it (better mileage than the auto too). Although the Jetta has the same engine, it's just become too mainstream and I thought I'd like something a bit more unique. The Mazda just didn't do much for me style-wise and it doesn't have as much power as the Volkswagens.
