How to make 7 chords sound more interesting in solo jazz piano style?

What else can I add into 7 chords to make them more interesting? I am doing 3-7-9 or 7-3-5 and can do altered 5 or 9 entering into a minor chord but they sound boring to me and I'd like to 'jazz' them up a bit.
