how to magnify image while manually focusing?

i own a canon 1000D. i've recently enjoyed creative shots with the manual focus but sometimes the point of focus is not sharp when i uploaded it. how can i magnify the image while composing my shots? thanks

****i've read in the manual about the focusing frame. i've tried using the buttons but it's just no use. help!
