How to look good in photos taken with a flash..?

Gah. Flash photos anger me so much. When I'm hanging out with a friend and we take pictures (ALWAYS on flash. ugh.), my eye makeup looks absolutely horrible (compared to my milky white skin, because I wear a medium amount of black eye makeup), my lips look REALLY red (compared to my pale skin), and the rest of my face looks super pale! It's like my eyes, my hair, and my mouth look darker/more noticeable, but my face is pretty much purely white and shiney. It looks horrible, but when I take a picture with no flash, I look pretty good.

So, how do I make myself look better in flash pictures?
