How to install a Kenwood stereo in '99 Mazda Protege?

I gave a friend of mine the Kenwood stereo I had in my old vehicle when I scrapped it (My new car had a better Alpine stereo installed in it) but he's having issues hooking it up in his car.

It was originally installed in a 1995 Mazda B4000 and he has a 1999 Mazda protege. Does the wiring adapter hookup for the B4000 not work with the wiring in the 1999 protege? Its been a few years since the kenwood had been installed in the B4000 and I had it installed professionally so I'm not sure if the adapter for the Kenwood was specific for the B4000 or it was a general hookup. I also lost the manual for the stereo some time ago.

If the adapter will work in the Protege, which wires connect? We've looked up some wiring manuals for both the stereo and the protege, but we're still a bit confused. Do we need to go buy a adapter specific for the protege? We're trying to avoid having it installed professionally to save money. I gave him the plastic insert, the face-plate, the actual body of the stereo, the wiring hookups, the screws and the mp3 player cords.
Forgot to mention the model of the Kenwood stereo is a KDC-MP142 CD-Reciever
