Assuming that you have no credit....
You can: deposit $500 with your bank and ask them to issue a secured credit card that reports the payments to the credit bureaus.
Be very careful, the card is real and not loaded with you $500.
Only make small purchases that stay below the 30% limit of your card and pay off in full when the bill comes. After about 1 year to 18 months you can ask the bank to grant you an unsecured credit card because by then you have established a credit history with this secured card.
If they agree you get your $500 back and get a real credit card.
You can also do a secured loan where you give the bank $1000 and they give you a loan for $1000. You make the monthly payments which in turn get reported on your credit report and that way you can also get a credit history and a boost in your score.
