How To: HTC Hero Flash to Cricket with Talk, Text, Wap and MMS

Thanks for the great tutorial Brandon. So far I have talk/text and web working great. One question though - Do you get notification of new voicemail with a cricket flashed hero? Mine does not seem to be working and I was wondering if I should even expect it to.

You know amoashit or whatever your name is, you and this other idiot Randomwit are arrogant sons of *****es who can't stand anyone else doing good or better than they are. Shut up and let him post., They guy has done well, and shared his knowledge without asking for a million thanks or glory from everyone else like you and that other idiot do. Morons :buddies:

I cant say for sure, as i have a Droid Eris (Verizon version of the hero) that i used this guide to flash over, with different 2.1 root rom of course. but there is a setting in "Settings > Call > Voicemail Settings" that i changed to *99 for cricket, i havent recieved any VM yet, but i assume this should get you working, since verizon uses a different vm number.

And on a side note, i had issues getting my phone to *228, i was dumb and factory reset the phone before flashing, and it got set to Verizon stock unactivated, i had to modify my IMSI_S in QPST to my MDN that i obtained by calling a Cricket rep.

May help someone else.

Talk/Text/MMS/Web (only from browser, all apps fail) working from this guide.

And thanks again for the great guide, its a blast modding my phone. I just cant wait for more Eris support since from my understanding hero roms dont work on eris without porting.

Tried changing the voicemail number in the call settings to *99 and it still won't notify me when new messages are waiting. Thinking there must be a setting in QPST for me to change but just don't know which one.

Also, there is a guy in town that claims he can get all the apps working with the internet on the hero. Anybody think this is even possible?

The only way i am aware of apps working is via Wifi or via the proxy workaround, but that means you need to add a mobile broadband line to your account.

To my knowledge the HTML data plan wouldn't work, as it just ups your speed, but your still going through the generic cricket wap, which is what causes the apps to fail.

Im just going to wait until cricket gets an actual droid phone and see what they charge for the plan, if its decent i may up my plan, if not then ill stick with just the browser and use wifi for my apps.

Not sure if the Eris is any different in that avenue, but i got Talk/Text/MMS/Web working on stock 1.5 from verizon using this guide.

it was only after i got it working on stock that i rooted / started nandroid backing up my setups, its super fun tinkering with the internals :)

** EDIT **
i also used apn backup and restore from the market place, rather than pushing the DB as i was not rooted initially.

was super simple, just change the word "verizon" to "cricket" as others have mentioned.

All is working thanks to the guide and everyone's input. I make every attempt to search and read before posting to avoid undervaluing the effort that it takes to make this possible. I'm posting to not only say thanks, but to note one adjustment that I needed that may be helpful to someone else.

For number 3 of Step 2, setting up the WEB, instead of setting Mobile IP Behavior as MOB + Simple, I set it as Simple IP only. Before this, I could not send MMS or login to my google account. However, I could receive MMS and get the WEB.

:2thumbs: Thanks again

Yea when I opened the apn file there wasn't a sprint to replace with cricket just an empty place so I put cricket and also added the port number and also added the password cricket but still couldn't get mms so I guess it's differnet on the hero
