how to groom a yorkie myself?

i might be geting my own yorkie in january i wanted to know how to cut her hair myself i want her to have short hair i think they call it a puppy cut.i was going to get a dog razor my mom can help she groomed her poodle for a long time before it died so she knows how to groom a poodle is there much of a diference between the grooming needs of thoes two dogs?plz help.
