How to get the early termination fee waived

I have gotten out of three contracts with no ETF, just for calling the provider and explaining problems- those companies being TMO, verizon and sprint.

I hope that a tmo rep reading these sneaky things reports it---really, its actions like that that causes the prices to rise.

How about a deal. People stop doing these sneaky things, and carriers start pro-rating the ETFs, rather than sneakily hitting people with the full ETF amount for cancelling, say, a month early!

I would say hey if your unhappy with the service and this is the only way around it. So be it. Live and let live.~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

when I changed my settings on my 8320 to AT&T, I got a message saying emergency service only (SOS) -so how would that work?

i have AT&T side covered here!!!

as has been posted before, if you calmly explain the situation and don't do scandalous things like purposely change settings to get the etf waived, then you shouldn't have probs. just be nice and respectful. thanks all for doing your best to keep end users on the straight and narrow

That is the main reason tmobile is doing this so they don't have to make up the money elsewhere by raising rates for everyone
Plus if you are an extreme roamer they can't guarentee service with another tower and its a lot harder to troubleshoot if something goes wrong

And note the fact its called extreme roaming just simply changing your network for a while won't work they look at months of useage so anyone who does try it is going to have to go through a headache for a while before tmobile will even consider them an extreme roamer its a lot more trouble than its worth

Don't get me wrong I do hate that we are losing people who have been with us for years that never had a problem using other towers but there can be a lot of problems for the customers themselves for using other towers the system is highly delayed in registering minutes and charges so thatcould result in higher bills for them for overages and "late billables"

If they would put towers in more places (places that they CLAIM they have Coverage by THIER towers), and NOT just BIG cities, then they wouldn't have to pay other companies to use their towers.

i am currently a tmobile customer and am trying to get out of my contract due to not being able to rely on my messaging at all. there have been countless text messages i have not received and even more picture messages that i am just not able to open or retrieve. i have spoken to tmobile about this issue more times than i can count. i have been more than kind and patient, but am pretty much at my wit's end with them. i was on the phone with several different account specialists for the majority of the day on saturday to try to come to some resolution. long story short, i was pretty much told that there was absolutely no way that they would waive the ETF because it is automatically built into the bill as soon as you cancel. they wouldn't even entertain the idea of crediting me the $200 if i paid the fee. i can't justify giving this provider any more of my money if i am not getting reliable service...
not sure what to do in this situation. i feel pretty trapped by them and am just looking to get into a company where i am getting what i am paying for. suggestions? i always trust the stackers here!

I have this problem from time to time, too often because I'm paying for the service!! Can anyone of the people thats so honest in the earlier post offer some good advice?? My guess is no! Because we're just supposed to accept anything the company wants to do to us! I say you have a legitmate cause to do what ever you can to get out without paying the ETF! As far as the prices goin up.......their going to go up regardless! OMG..can some of you reps take this info back to your bosses while you're telling them about the so-called sneaky tactics???

There is a difference of actually having a problem with your service and just changing your options on your phone to make it some your roaming. If you have a legit problem with the service then yea you should have your etf waived but if your just doing it cause you want a new phone or a new provider quit being a baby about it and just fork out the money for the etf considering you are the one that signed the contract.
