how to get songs from windows media player ot ipod?

So, my friend burnt me a cd, but he burns them on data mode so he can fit like 100 songs on a cd. I cannot play these cds on the stock cd player in my car, so I was going to download the songs onto my ipod. itunes will not recognize the cd because of this, but he used windows media player, so it will play them. I made a sync list on windows media player, but i cannot get it to recognize my ipod. I will plug in my ipod and it still says connect portable media device. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
