How to get Sidekick 2008 (gekko) to work with o2 Simcard?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to know how to get my sidekick 2008 to work in the UK without going to t-mobile, my sidekick is unregistered and I have no idea how to register it as a registration screen does not come up, I have tried the simcenter pin change etc but that doesn't work so does anyone know how?
