It seems my computer has got a virus, and I've absolutely no idea how to get rid of it.
Two days ago I was surfing the web when a pop up appeared stating that I had a virus. Figuring it was connected to the website I was on I exited out of the pop up and went about my business.
Then three icons appeared on my task bar that shouldn't have been there. Two were red circles with white x's in them - and one looked like a shield with four different colors. I clicked on the shield first and it said it was Advanced Virus Remover. I had never downloaded such a program, so I tried to exit out of it. I couldn't get the icon to disappear. I completed a full scan using McAfee, my usual virus protection program - and quarantined/deleted all the viruses it came up with. I restarted my computer, and still those three icons were there. Well, I figured out where the 'Advanced Virus Remover' program was located and I deleted it. The one icon disappeared when I restarted my computer, but the two x's were still there. They keep causing pop ups that say my computer is infected with a whole bunch of viruses that I know I don't have because McAfee takes care of it, and whenever I hit the x button it re downloads Advanced Virus Remover which I continuously delete.
I've scanned my computer entirely with McAfee a few times - and still no results that'll get this virus to disappear. My computer keeps saying that I have viruses like WinSky32 or something of the variation, and it won't let my windows updates run because it says 'they can't be verified.' I can no longer ctrl + alt + delete with my computer, because I get a pop up saying that 'this program is infected.' Well, when I started up my computer this morning McAfee said it had delted a program called an 'HTML/fakeAV' from my computer. The icons were still there, but maybe this was the virus and McAfee couldn't get rid of it? I searched the Virus on McAfee's page and it says that it's low risk, and my internet and all my programs work correctly - but I can't use ctrl + alt + delete, and my computer is running significantly slower - plus I'm getting all these annoying pop ups. Does anybody know how to get rid of an HTML/fakeAV trojan virus or anything of the variation that wouldn't require wiping my computer in it's entirety? McAfee still isn't identifying it/delete it properly and I've scanned my computer numerous times.
One of the pop ups I'm getting says this:
Attention! System detected a potential hazard (TrojanSPM/LX) on your computer that may infect executable files. You private information and PC safety is at risk. To get rid of unwanted spyware and keep your computer safe you need update your current security software. Click OK to download official intrusion detection system (IDS software)
When I exit out of this pop up - advanced virus remover redownloads itself onto my computer. I have AGAIN deleted such a program.
