How to get pound sign on Htc desire?

My keyboard doesn't have a pound sign, or an equals sign. I've tried looking up Settings but can't find anything that helps. Am I being thick? Has anyone else had this problem & solved it?!
 
Depends what Android OS you're running. If you're running the same as me it's this:

Hit the SYM button, you'll see numbers and symbols. Look over to the right and you'll see " with the pound sign above it. Hold that button down and your pound sign will arrive.
