how to get out of a mobil phone contract?

my friend has just got a mobil phone a couple of months ago and has had nothing but trouble with it and she want to get out of the contract they say she still has to pay even tho she don't use it no more she is on benefit and is finding it a struggle there must be someone on here that knows how surly
 
if she doesnt pay they will cut her off...how i got out of my old broadband contract
