How to get off of doxycycline? I am taking it for about 5 years now, and I am in mid thirties. My dose right now is 100mg/day. I would like to try a natural way to cure it eventially, if I have to. In the same time, I want to find out a correct way of getting off of it.

Do you still have bad acne, because I know from experience even not taking it for 2 days can flare up your acne severely?

I also take doxycycline but I think you should talk to your doctor about switching up your meRAB, as doxycycline isn't good to be on that long.

I have been on the brand name of doxycycline which is doryx. My dermatologist recommended that I come back in just 3 months to see the progress and hopefully be able to take me off of it. It shouldn't be used for more than just a few months at a time seeing as it is an antibiotic. If you have been on it for so long there is probably something more long term like accutane that your dermatologist should recommend. It is a little more serious but if your acne is depending on the doxycycline right now it might be something to consider. My acne wasn't serious enough for me to want to try it but I do know how frustrating it can be! Best of luck to you!

tzaritsa, when you say I am taking it for about 5 years now.
Do you mean your taking Doxycycline regularly or are you taking it only when you get acne.
I get acne every now and then and only take the doxycycyline when i have acne.
When your acne goes away do you still take the Doxy when your face is clear?

Benzoyl peroxide applied once or twice a day after washing has been shown to produce results roughly equal to doxycycline, but, like anything, it wont work for everybody.

There are several things that might help you - i would speak to your doctor, and tell him you want to come off doxy, and what does s/he thing would be the best alternative for you.

That said, if doxy is working for you, and isnt causing side effects, it might turn out to be the best option you have.

I was on doxy for over a year, it worked miracles for me for about 6 mo. went off it for a few months and when the acne came back and i resumed it for a year, it never worked quite as well again. Slowly my body got immune to it and it stopped working. I'm sure your body too has developed resistance to the drug if you have taken it for 5 years. antibiotics only work temporarily until your body develops resistance. then when you stop you get a huge breakout. my face seemed to get much worse after stopping. my dr tried switched me to minocin after doxy and it didnt work at all. i had a huge breakout from stopping doxy. now i am on accutane and i dont think i got a breakout from stopping minocin b/c i started on accutane. my doc said it would help me not to get a big breakout from stopping minocin. u should if u can try it. since i have a sulfa allergy she said only other thing i could try is aldactone, but she said that drug id have to take forever and accutane is hopefully just a 5 month course and im done. i just started last week so i hope it works....
