A few days ago I had to switch my 2 year old cat from a half wet/half dry diet to 100% canned food due to urinary tract problems. He is a naturally big guy at around 15lbs and my vet says he needs around 300 calories a day, which comes out to roughly two cans of food.
Unfortunately he has always preferred dry food, and when I give him the canned he usually just nibbles at it for a few minutes and then wanders off, leaving half of it behind. I have tried splitting the food into several small meals to accommodate his grazing, but even so I am having a hard time getting him to eat more than a can a day.
Any ideas on how to get him to eat more of the stuff? The vet said I can't supplement with his old dry food because it would cause more urinary problems, but I really don't want him to starve.
