This is the correct alltel android mms settings just:

Download APN Backup&restore from market
Use apn backup&restore
Backup APN
Remove memory card of your phone
go to apn backup&restore folder
Open your saved APN using notepad or textedit
erase what's in yours and replace with whats above
save, insert memory card
go to apn backup&restore
restore APN
Done!

(I havent tried it yet, i will confirm later today!)

:) Enjoy!

Thanks a ton for sharing this information... very appreciated!

Backed up my current stock Verizon flashes eris's APN file. Replaced the text with the text you posted...

Saved it, went back to apnbackuprestore restored my new alltelapn.xml file i made...

No worky... Gives me a big XML error.. odd.

EDIT: the first line on the xml text in the first post is a little different than what the factory one was.. the " character needs to be changed to the ' character and there is no - character after the first line

Edited it and apnbackuprestore accepted it, successfully restored 3 APN's

so..

it should be

EDIT #2 ... MMS fails still... Receives, cant send. it fails IMMEDIATELY .. about a half second after hitting send, "unable to deliver: General network failure" in the status bar.

I'm beginning to think that there may be missing or incorrect M.IP configuration in the programming menu...

if there's someone with the hero that could give us Eris/other android phone users the info in the following menu

Type ##778 and Call .. passcode is 000000
Choose View Mode so you don't edit anything and mess up your own programming :)

we need settings from the following menus...

Modem Settings
Security (exclude from sharing your phone # and hdr an auth password, that's probably your phones ESN #)
M.IP settings
M.IP Default Profile
M.IP customer profile 1 if there is even anything in there.

This would be GREAT help if someone could get that info! ... MMS would be very nice instead of having to email pictures to cellphones as MMS, makes it a pain. After work today, if alltel is still open I'll run in there and see if they have a working alltel hero I can snag some info off of... but if not, hopefully someone else can get access to that info :)

##PROGRAM maybe?.. or *#*#PROGRAM#*#*

##778 (extended programming), ##PRL (edit the PRL file), ##PROGRAM, etc... all still work on the Eris running 2.1 official.

Strange.

Indeed it is. Hmm well i'm on ATN divested and since the Hero was only released on AT&T divested maybe the settings are different or something. Once it comes out on ATN Network i will go into a Alltel Store and obtain the APN myself from a demo phone. Until then i will continue to work with the APN off of the AT&T Divested Hero.

Been toying with that APN file, still is a failure.

Anyone with the Hero daring to put it in diagnostics mode and use desktop PST software to get the mobile IP profile read from the phone and post it up here would be a hero (no pun intended haha)..

Welp...

Got my hands on an Alltel HTC hero today...

I tried to get every bit of provisioning information off of it that might have been missing on my eris.

I noticed that the Mobile IP default profile had plenty of information in it that my Eris had missing... I also notice, if I disable mobile IP profiles all together, 3G/1x still works perfect, only thing that doesnt work is MMS... so I'm figuring that MMS relies on the Mobile IP profile and that's it. I copied all the mobile IP information from the HTC Hero and applied it to my Eris. I copied the HA Authentication key using QXDM PST software, The HA key was 30 Characters the AAA password was 30 0's... the default and gateway IP's are all 0's. ... bleh, whatever, I basically cloned the Mobile IP settings, reset my Eris, settings stuck. Went to send an MMS, .. FAIL. I then tried one more time to backup the APN file on the Hero and copy it to my Eris and restore the actual XML backup file, restored without a hiccup, did mms work.. ??? NO.

Weird.

I'm totally weirded out.

I have come to find out that the only way to get MMS working correctly on a NON-alltel branded android rom will have to have the Telephony.db system file from the Alltel Hero replaced witht he telephony.db file on your non-alltel android phone/rom.

This can only be done with a phone that is rooted using android SDK's terminal.

Interesting... So who here can pull the file for us? I'm willing to be a guinea pig with my Eris if someone can get the file off a hero. Just getting into the gritty stuff with these Android phones and willing to learn, got mine rooted and ready to test. :)

With my mother just getting the Alltel hero, I'll root hers and see if I can pull the telephony.db file for us.

If its a huge pita, I think i will be trading my eris for a hero here soon, I really like the ergonomics of the hero anyhoo, same phone other than that, on top of that the alltel rom has all good features of android os enabled without having to root, on top top top of that, theres a huge pile of roms and root options for the hero vs. the eris.

Well *IF* you get it pulled that would be cool even if you go the Hero route yourself.. Please.. ;)

I've tried almost every modification I can think in many combinations on my telephony.db file to no avail. Has to be something stupid/simple I'm just not getting right.
