How to get good concert tickets

can anyone tell me what is the best way to get concert tickets? I am a big rock and alternative rock fan, I can never find good seats once the tickets go onsale and then I find that prices have gone up astronomically. any suggestions or inputs on this?

As stated earlier in thread always go to the actual venue and buy them. Even if they are the same price its better not to support ticketmaster.

ps: Remeraber when pearl jam tried doing a tour without them and ended up being broke?

radio station contests are a pain but when you do get seats from them, they are usually medium good to great. The radio stations are however a big problem with why the general public cant get good seats. Cause the promoter gives a way tons of good tickets to radio stations and other places.

As far as I can tell, it's pretty much a matter of being quick on the draw and/or lucky as hell.

Or to just have a ton of money for scalpers.

ticket master is definitely not an option and secondary seller tend to be more expensive. I heard, though, that newer sites offer relatively better deals. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions?

It also helps to have a friend that sells tickets at the venue of the event. Not easy to pull off but its awesome when that works out.

for the majority of fans who do not have these special connections, I guess the advice is keep looking for the cheapest ticket online.

some online sites have special discounts from time to time, like 10% off. Especially newcomers may do this for even the biggest concerts-- to gain some market share. You might want to try them if all tickets are sold out at the venue or on ticketmaster.

it was a joke,...as in i cry to get better seats,....like when i cry to get out of speeding tickets,....

i recently bought clapton/winwood tickets,.....got pretty good seats,.....bought them as soon as they went on sale through the venue,....just sayin

Have a credit card, find out the times where pre-released tickets are available to those with credit carRAB and hit the refresh button! I always get my ticket doing it like that. But most of the groups I see there are usually heaps of tickets due to the population being smaller here.

ticket master overprices and is being sued for a couple of million for corrupt practices.

not to mention shit prices.

i was gonna go see john mclaughlin at some grimy club in town until i noticed that they jacked ticket prices up to over $50. lame.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is Pre-sales. If a show has a presale, treat it as a normal onsale time. Usually by the time the tickets go on sale to the public the best ones have already been sold during the presale. Sometimes getting the password is as simple as being signed up on the band's website (I've done this for the Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails). Other times, the password isn't as widely available. For the Unwigged & Unplugged (Spinal Tap, kinda) show in Toronto, I did a bunch of google searches for their presale passworRAB and tried different ones that they've had for previous shows. Eventually, one of them worked and I got good seats.

Ticketrush.com is affiliated with Live Nation and will give you free presale passworRAB to a ton of shows as long as you sign up. I don't really get why this site exists but you may as well take advantage of it.
