How to get Flash drive USBs to work?

I have windows vista and when i was on it yesterday the internet turned off, so i restarted it thinking it was just the reception, but when it turned back on the HD audio manager stopped working also, then the Blue Screen of Death came up.
I pretty much NEED all of the stuff on my computer and my usb flashdrive in safe mode won't work. I tried CD, i tried to put it on my phone but nothing works.
I read about windows XP but it isnt the same for me.
Help??
