Okay, so I'm in the (9th grade). I'm just starting to look into universities and colleges. I really like MIT, but I'm wondering what it takes to get into that school? This year, I taking: Anatomy & Physiology AP Biology Geometry English Literature & Composition (Advanced, using college level textbooks)Nutrition (Advanced)AP GermanDebate English Language & Comp. (Advanced)United States History (Advanced)Human Geography (Advanced)I volunteer at a couple places, and I'm involved an a few clubs in my town. I skipped a year in 7th grade. I really want to get into MIT, what can I do to help me get accepted in the future? I have a 4.00 GPA unweighted. Thanks!By the way: I am using advanced college level textbooks, that meet the AP standards, but I'm not planning on taking the official AP exams.

Not taking the AP exams will hurt you. Colleges don't really recognize AP classes as AP if you don't take the exams - it doesn't count. They assume it's because the class wasn't at a high enough level for you to pass the exam - some high schools call everything AP, even study hall! If you're doing well in the class and actually using college-level texts, there's no reason not to take the exam, and every reason TO take it. As for applying to MIT, find some way to make your application stand out - high grades and test scores are a must, but everyone will have that. Win the Intel Science Competition, do original scientific research with a college professor, get a patent, something like that. Many other applicants will have these things on their resumes.

If I were you, I would reconsider not taking the AP Exams. Taking these exams distinguishes you from other typical students. However, this looks excellent. Keep taking years of foreign language, and study your heart out.Knowledge goes a lot longer of a way then just grades, because it improves your SAT and ACT scores. Take BOTH of those, and buy "Hot words for the SAT" to have impressive vocabulary, and tons of practice tests so that you can test your skill and discover what you need to work on. Get all A's as if your life depended on it. Sign up for all AP classes. What colleges really like is diversity. Try getting involved in something offbeat or extreme. They like to see that you're different than typical students. They want the best. And if you're not white, you definitly have a good chance, because they love accepting people of different ethnic cultures.Personally, I myself am impressed. Debate? German? Damn. I see an acceptance letter in your future(:

This is a ?' : where on earth are you going to highschool??Those are a lot of classes and I've never ever heard of AP classes offered for freshmen.I'm Really curious - it's private/prep. isn't it?

My daughter's friend was a valedictorian, with all honors and AP classes, many awards for math, science, music, vocals. A leader in all his clubs, with excellent recommendations-and didn't get in to MIT. He did get into Harvard.

Grades, SATs, SAT2s, MUST SCORE 5 on AP TESTS. To score a 5, you must TAKE the AP test.get very involved with 3 activities for your entire HS career. have ready a portfolio of evidence that you did the stuff. You need to stand out to be noticed. MIT gets so many applications from 4.0 students with really high SATs etc....... at some point, they just randomly select from the applicant pool......
