How to Flash a Treo 700W/WX without a Cable!!!

Credit for this goes to beezlewaxin. He figured out how to backup the NVitems useing the Treo Updater.

I need some webspace to host the files. I also need to edit out my personal info from the backup. So in a couple of hours I will have a quick write up for you guys.

The NVBackup I have is from a working Sprint Treo, with the Data Provisioning requirements removed.

So flashing this backup to your phone will remove that, from there you can use ##DATA#, or #*#DATA to edit the NAI Settings. Weather or not the Simple IP setting is stored in this back up, we will see soon. I have a customer activating an account now. So I will see in a few minutes if we still need to use the cable to change the MIP settings.

You need to find a 700P firmware updater, and an NVBackup from an already flashed 700P. You can change the MSL with a hex editor in the backup, but not the PRL. Not as far as I can see.

Haha this has me thinking about a Treo, too.

I host all of my stuff at 250free.com--250rab of free space and I don't think there are any restrictions on filetypes. You might give that a shot.

I'm busy working on my wifes for Focus (Fucus). I hate this damn car.

Anyways, confirmed working on a Sprint 700WX. Confirmed NOT working on a Verizon 700W. The VZW phone will only roam, no native Cricket service. The MSL has been changed useing this method though. If anyone has a VZW Treo that has ALREADY been flashed, PLEASE pm me. This would help the community alot.

Yes this will work with a 700p, it was a Sprint 700p that I originally did this with. We're just fortunate that Palm created a windows mobile utility that has the same functionality as their PalmOS firmware updater utility.

Credit goes to kocoman, who posted this method for PalmOS Treos a couple months ago:

I used this method most recently on a sprint 700wx so that I could enable cricket's wap, *without* having to flash the phone to Verizon 1.22 700wx firmware. Restoring a verizon nv backup file (I used one from a 1.10 700w) onto a sprint 700wx essentially wipes out all of the PCS Vision stuff that always causes problems.

I think I may have also deleted a couple keys/values in the registry related to IOTA, after making sure they weren't also in the registry of a verizon wm5 phone, but this may be optional. At the very least, I would dial ##DATA# and delete all the IOTA web addresses, which may also be optional, but I don't like them in there.

If you're trying to flash a sprint 700wx with verizon firmware, that is a completely different procedure. I personally won't do it with a 700wx unless it's a spare phone, because both Treo's I have updated to verizon's 1.22 firmware became invisible in diag mode, and therefore nearly impossible to configure for wap/prl for cricket. One was a sprint 700wx, and the other was a 700w.

Somebody brought me a Sprint 700wx, and because I had already had a bad first experience flashing a sprint 700wx with verizon firmware, I decided to find another way to enable wap on cricket, one that allowed me to keep the Sprint firmware. Sucks really, as the 1.22 firmware is a substantial update, which I'd like to have used. The good portions of it (stero bluetooth, for example) though have been backported to the sprint 700wx on a couple different forums though.

If you want to flash it to verizon firmware though, I made a post here when I first did it:
Finally did it! Sprint 700wx flashed with 1.22 VZW ROM Update
http://discussion.treocentral.com/showpost.php?p=1311608&postcount=1

And about a week later someone posted the same accomplishment:
So who wants Custom Roms? I flashed my WX!!!

If I were to do it now though, instead of manually applying the firmware update file in bootloader mode, I'd simply change he carrier token to verizon (while in bootloader mode), and then run the official verizon desktop update utility normally.

I tryed to change the Token. But I couldn't find a way to do it on the Windows Mobile phones. I found the Palm Program, but nothing for windows. Do you know how?

Did you ever get around to making this write up and posting the files? I really want to play with a Treo, but getting that cable is sounding painful.

I did, and I will post them later. I actually just had a guy bring me a Treo. It was flashed in 4 minutes, no cable. That was the quickest $40 I ever made.
